South Park: The Stick of Truth is the long awaited game for any fan of the series. And I believe to be the best South Park game ever made (I know it isn’t hard). It looks and feels like you are playing an actual episode of South Park, I had several people walk in while I was playing and they just thought I was just watching an episode. The RPG (Role Playing Game) style is simple and well thought out, and is one of the best I’ve seen in a recent RPG games. Simple recommendation before I go into further details and possible spoiler territory for South Park: The Stick of Truth, if you are or ever have been fans of South Park buy this game. If you have never been a fan just leave it alone.
Now living in Australia even with the R18+ rating (the highest in the country) found many mini games to be cut out of the final game. Surely the adult Australian can make their own choice about whether or not to play the game, the game looks like an episode which was originally make by hand with cut out construction paper. Though the crying Koala explaining what you were missing out on were funny to read.
Throughout the entire game the number of references to old episodes and characters even the ones they couldn’t integrate into the story in the room of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny old costumes and props of the entire series can be found. The only thing that was missed is a reference to Dr Alphonse Mephesto and his little friend Kevin who played continued roles in early episodes of the series.
Even the combat didn’t feel out of place, of course it had to have visual changes done for it to work but the look and attack names were all hilarious without giving to much away, the “magic” spells found in other RPG games is the power of farts.
From the opening credits to the final boss fight I had a huge grin on my face. The developers have spent so much time to ensure they got it right and make it the South Park game we have all been wanting since South Park 64. A must for any fan!
